Abe Rábade GHU! Project is an acousctic jazz quintet that has been touring regularly since 2001. The group performed in several festivals and theatres such as: Festival de Jazz de la UNED and Festival de Jazz de Boadilla del Monte (Madrid, Spain), Festival de Jazz de Lugo, Teatro Principal de Pontevedra and Pazo da Cultura de Pontevedra (Galicia, Spain), Festival de Jazz de Gijón and Festival de Jazz de Mieres (Asturias, Spain). The band offered a special concert for the Xacobeo 2004 in Mondoñedo (Lugo, Galicia) performing Cantigas Suite (a composition based on Galician medieval music from the XIII century put in a jazz context).
The repertoire is mainly original music composed by Abe Rábade. It offers a variety of jazz styles: energetic hard bop, a lyrical character in ballads and medium tempos, rhythmic experimentarion and a vaste respect for the most orthodox jazz tradition. Improvisation plays a very impostant role in the Abe Rábade GHU! Project, a quintet that features excellent soloists and guarantees vibrant concerts.
The first CD of the band is released by Karonte Records. The work Abe Rábade GHU! Project vol.1 includes 7 original compositions (The sound of Babel, Niles Pond, 203, Raíña da Luz, Traurig, Bártok y Praça da Alegria) and 2 versions (Footprints by Wayne Shorter and Trinkle Tinkle by Thelonious Monk).
